Ava's Story

Ava was born in July of 2014. She was medically challenged from birth, and the things became even more challenging when she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018. her living situation was not conducive for her health. As the word spread about her health and the need for a better accommodation, a family stepped up and offered their unfinished basement. Child's Spirit, several other non-profit and a handful of volunteers finished the basement with a living room, kitchen, bath and a large bedroom for Ava and her mom. It was a gift she needed. Unfortunately, in June of 2019, a week before her 5th birthday, Ava's fight came to an end. Ava's mom, Amber has joined Child's Spirit to help transform a sick child's bedroom into a comfortable retreat for the child to heal. Even though Ava is not with us in body, her spirit will continue to Give Gift of Dream Bedrooms to children in need.

About

Child's Spirit is a 501(c)(3) organization that creates Dream Bedrooms for Children with medical challenges. With inspiration from Ava's story, we evolved from the
belief that children with a compromised immune system need a place to not only sleep; but have fun and get better, for a child challenges, who spends a lot of time in his/her bedroom, the space should be very special. Our vision is to create unique bedrooms that only the child can imagine. Whether it is princess pretty, superhero strong or a teen retreat theme, our goal is to take an existing bedroom and transform it into a Dream Bedroom. It is our hope that these bedrooms will help soothe, comfort and make the long recovery journey for "our children" exciting & pleasurable.

Additionally, we create Dream Bedrooms in a bag. This, unique concept allows us to lightly decorate a child's hospital room during the treatment period to make the hospital room a happy place. This is done with consultation with the care givers without impeding on the hospital monitors and any other equipment needed for the care.
